Black Amber, Raw, from Sumatra - Ancient Earth energy. Deep protection. Preserved through time.
This Black Amber piece carries the quiet power of deep time. Unlike crystals formed through mineral crystallization, black amber is fossilized tree resin, created millions of years ago when ancient forests released resin that slowly hardened, was buried, and transformed through pressure and time.
Scientifically, amber is an organic gemstone, not a mineral. Black amber forms when resin undergoes intense oxidation, mineral infusion, and compression—resulting in its deep, dark coloration and lightweight warmth. Often sourced from regions with prehistoric forests, black amber is a rare reminder of Earth’s living past, preserved naturally without heat or chemical alteration.
Spiritually, black amber is valued as a stone of protection, grounding, and ancestral wisdom. It’s believed to absorb negative energy, promote emotional stability, and create a strong energetic boundary. Many use black amber for grounding during periods of stress, shadow work, or energetic cleansing.
This piece is ideal for:
Grounding and energy protection
Emotional balance and stability
Ancestral or earth-based spiritual practices
Carrying as a protective talisman
Meditation focused on release and resilience
Amber is an organic gemstone derived from fossilised tree resin and is approximately 20-100 millions years old. Most amber is typically found in the Baltic region, but recently a different variety of amber was discovered in Sumatra, South-East Asia. Unlike Baltic amber which often contains bits of bark, trapped air bubbles, and sometimes insects, Sumatran amber has relatively less of these inclusions and features darker coloured areas within its reddish-cognac body that resemble the spots of a leopard. The other main difference between the two is that Sumatran amber also has an optical feature that displays a reddish hue under incandescent light and a blue fluorescence under UV light. Baltic amber does not display either of these optical phenomenons.
Sumatran amber is not heated, clarified, or treated.
As with all organic gemstones, do not use harsh chemical cleaners to clean your amber, instead use mild soap and warm water.
Each piece varies in size, shape and colour.
