Gabbro is an igneous rock that forms when magma cools slowly beneath the Earth’s surface. Because it cools gradually, large crystals of minerals such as plagioclase feldspar, pyroxene, and sometimes olivine can develop. This slow cooling process creates its coarse-grained texture and dark colour.
